What affects a garage floor coating
A garage floor coating fails or holds based on the slab and the product instructions, not on the color chip. This guide is those factors. It does not name a brand, a price, or a number of years the coating will last. The independent provider who sees the slab sets the price. Dial Home Help does not coat floors.

The surface you coat is the job
Oil, tire dressing, curing compound, and a smooth troweled surface keep a coating from grabbing the concrete. Ask how the provider will clean and profile the slab, what they will do about cracks and joints, and whether old coating comes off or gets coated over. A quote that says prep without saying which of those is not yet a scope.
Ask to see the written steps, not a slogan. If they will grind, etch, or both, the quote should say so. If a stain has soaked in, ask whether that spot is excluded. Coating over oil and hoping is a common way to buy a peel.
Moisture is a property of the slab
Concrete can hold moisture and can keep passing vapor after it looks dry. Coatings blister or peel when the product is asked to hold back vapor it was not rated for. There is no single moisture number this site can print, because the limit is on the product data sheet, and products differ. Ask the provider which test they will use and which limit on the data sheet they are comparing it to.
If they cannot name the test or the sheet, you do not yet have a technical quote. A darker patch that returns after it is dried with a fan is a reason to ask the question, not a diagnosis by itself.
The data sheet sets the conditions
Film-building coatings and faster-cure coatings are different chemistries. Cure time, the temperature of the slab, the humidity in the garage, and how soon a car can park are on the data sheet, not in a universal table. Do not accept a single number of hours from an advertisement if it is not the sheet for the product in the quote. Ask for that sheet and read the limits before you schedule the day.
While a coating cures it can release volatile organic compounds. The EPA describes VOCs as gases some products emit, and it points to ventilation and to following product directions. Open the garage as the sheet says. Do not invent a safe concentration. We do not print one. People with breathing trouble should read the sheet and take the manufacturer's caution seriously, and should not treat this page as medical advice.
What the quote should list
Square feet, preparation method, crack and joint treatment, product name, number of coats, flake or color if any, and what the warranty covers: material, labor, or both, and for which kinds of failure. Hot tires, snow melt, and battery acid are product-specific. If the sheet excludes them, the quote should not promise them.
Dial Home Help does not rank coating companies and does not sell the product. Call Now reaches an independent provider who may pay Dial Home Help. Ask for the data sheet before you agree. The editorial policy is why there is no star rating beside the button.
Steps
- Ask how the slab will be prepared. Cleaning, profiling, cracks, joints, and old coating. Prep without those words is not a scope.
- Ask about moisture. Which test, and which limit on the product data sheet. There is no universal number on this page.
- Read the data sheet for conditions. Slab temperature, humidity, recoat, and when a vehicle can return. Use that sheet, not a slogan.
- Plan ventilation. The EPA discusses VOCs from products and following the label. Do not treat a curing garage as a closed room.
- Match the warranty to the sheet. Material, labor, and exclusions such as chemicals or hot tires. The provider sets the price.
Questions
How many years will a garage coating last?
This page does not give a number. Life depends on preparation, moisture, the product, and how the floor is used. Read the warranty and the data sheet.
Is there one moisture reading that means the slab is ready?
No. The limit is the one on the product data sheet. Ask which test the provider will compare to that limit.
Which brand should I buy?
This site does not name a brand. Ask for the data sheet of the product in the quote and read the limits.
Who coats the floor if I call?
An independent provider. Dial Home Help does not do the work and does not set the price. The provider may pay Dial Home Help.
